What’s On?
A full list of all the groups and organisations that use the Church Hall and ancillary halls can be found below.
Sunday School The Fitness Club The Wednesday Fitness with Friends Group emerged from the former Yoga Club which had been running in St. Columba for over 21 years. The members were sad not to be able to continue as a Yoga Club but a decision was taken in June 2009 to retain the class as a Church based group, to build on the ethos and camaraderie of the past and develop an active community outreach. Irene Bartholomew took over the reins and the group has grown over the past session into an exercise and relaxation class for all ages and abilities. Exercise is adapted to suit the needs of all members from the very fit to those less mobile, for one reason or another, who work from chairs. The class is a mix of exercise designed to maintain flexibility and improve breathing, general fitness and relaxation. The relaxation and de-stress session is unquestionably the favorite part of the afternoon, just a short step ahead of the closing cup of tea. If you think this might be just the class for you ... please come along and join us. We meet from September – May in the Midton Road Hall at 2pm. Further information from Irene Bartholomew (01292 265794) or Jay Mair (01292 264947). The Guild: The Church of Scotland Guild is a movement within the Church of Scotland which invites and encourages both women and men to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and enables them to express their faith in worship, prayer and action. Ayr St. Columba Church Guild is open to all members of the congregation. Meetings are held fortnightly on Mondays in the Midton Road Hall from September through March. Invited speakers tell of their experiences and musical groups entertain. Fellowship is always evident and friendships are formed. Visitors from Guilds throughout the Presbytery join with us as we endeavor to embrace our motto whose we are and whom we serve. -Jean A. Stewart, Secretary Ayr St Columba Men’s Association: exists to promote a spirit of Christian fellowship among the male members of the Congregation and it is open to all members of the Church – regardless age.Click Here to see Our 2009/10 Program of Events Our session runs from early October to the end of March and is in two parts: Monday evening meetings with guest speakers; and Thursday afternoon games where members vie for supremacy at snooker and carpet bowls and any other indoor game that offers a challenge. We have a guest speaker each evening and every effort is taken to make the Syllabus as interesting as possible. The evening usually finishes about 8.45 p.m. with tea and biscuits and discussion. Membership currently stands about 35 with an average attendance of about 30. A copy of the Syllabus can be seen both on the notice-board in the Anyone wishing to join will be made most welcome: simply come along to any of our meetings and give it a try.
